Kelcy Warren
Kelcy Warren is an American businessman and philanthropist best known as the founder of Energy Transfer Partners, the company responsible for the Dakota Access Pipeline. He has also founded a charitable organization that supports organizations working to fight poverty, improve education in underserved regions, and develop renewable energy sources.
Kelcy Warren was born in Oklahoma City but grew up on a ranch in Stephens County. The farm was so remote that it had no phone service or electricity. Warren grew up around ranch work but also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing football. He initially intended to go to college and major in engineering to design oil refineries. However, in his junior year of high school, Warren has kicked off the football team for being underweight. Despite his disappointment over losing the sport he loved and being denied a college scholarship due to his weight, Warren completed high school and entered Oklahoma State University (OSU), where he majored in geology and business administration.
After graduating from OSU in 1964,he worked as a geologist and engineer for various companies, including Pennzoil and Texaco. He was also involved in buying, selling, and trading oil company assets. He eventually became very wealthy.
In 1980, he founded Energy Transfer LP with a $2 billion-dollar capitalization. He bought out the stake of Pennzoil in Texas Eastern Transmission, which he renamed Energy Transfer Partners.
Kelcy Warren is an outspoken proponent of maintaining energy independence, especially when it comes to fossil fuels. He has made several comments in support of making America’s energy production reliant on Canadian oil sands and Canadian oil pipeline projects. Warren is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which regularly lobbies for more construction of fossil fuel infrastructure projects and attempts to block renewable energy in favor of more oil pipelines and other fossil fuel infrastructure.
Kelcy Warren is one of the wealthiest and most powerful businessmen in America. His company is responsible for the Dakota Access Pipeline, a controversial pipeline that sparked massive protests from native tribes and environmental activists. Warren has said that his company plans to complete the channel despite protesters’ threats and government officials’ pressure. See this article to learn more.
