- Early Life and Education
Abdul Latif Jameel was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1945. He holds a BSc degree in Economics and Statistics from Baghdad University, the highest institution of higher learning in the Arab world. In the 1970s, he moved to Saudi Arabia, joined King Khalid International University (KKU) as a faculty member, and became Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration there. As a dean at KKU, he was one of the alums associated with the founding of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSUHSC), which opened in Riyadh in 1981. Later, he became chairman of the board at KSUHSC until 2013, when it was listed as an Islamic-compliant company.

Hassan Jameel started his career at a national bank in Saudi Arabia in 1978. He worked with the bank for over 20 years before joining Al Rajhi Bank as CEO in 1998. He was appointed as CEO of Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) and Al Rajhi Banking & Investment Corporation chairman in 2006. He continued to serve until his resignation as chairman of Saudia on June 10, 2008. He was appointed by his father as vice chairman of Abdul Latif Jameel Group two days later, on June 12, 2008.

Hassan Jameel is the key person responsible for turning Al Rajhi Bank from a company with an equity of $2 million in 1985 to the largest bank by assets in Saudi Arabia. Hassan Jameel had been instrumental in attracting international attention for the group through his role as CEO, chairman, and board member at more than 20 global and regional companies, including Aramex, Walter Investment Management Corporation (U.S.), Qatar Islamic Bank, and Qatar Airways. He was also a key architect behind the establishment of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), considered one of the leading centers for research and education in the world.
