Stephen Bird is an Australian businessman who has been recently appointed as the CEO of Standard Life Aberdeen, a global investment company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Prior to this role, Bird has held several high-profile positions in the financial industry, including as CEO of Citigroup’s global consumer banking division, and as a member of the bank’s executive committee.

Bird has also worked for American Express and has held various senior roles at the company, including the President of its business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as well as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company’s global consumer business.

Bird has been recognized for his leadership skills and industry expertise, and has been named in the Financial Times’ list of top 100 influential LGBT+ executives, allies and future leaders in the UK. He has also been named in the top 50 LGBT+ global executives by OUTstanding, a professional network for LGBT+ executives and allies.

In his new role as CEO of Standard Life Aberdeen, Bird will be responsible for overseeing the company’s operations and growth strategy, which includes managing investments worth billions of pounds. Standard Life Aberdeen is one of the largest investment companies in the UK and is listed on the FTSE 100, the index of the 100 largest companies on the London Stock Exchange.

Bird has already outlined his vision for the company, which includes expanding its presence in Asia, particularly in China, as well as focusing on sustainable investing and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
